The Power of Habit
Why is it so hard to go out for a run when the couch beckons? Why do we feel compelled to snack whenever we pass a candy jar? How can parents help kids develop routines that make them more successful in school? Former New York Times reporter and best-selling author of The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg, shares answers to those questions at this Salon Lab, as well as insights about the exploding field around the study of habit. Habits, he finds, are influenced by urges most of us barely recognize or understand, and yet they impact how we get through each day, family life, health, leadership and even societal movements. Join him in a discussion of how simply understanding how habits work – learning the structure of the habit loop – makes them easier to control.
