Designed to be a diverse set of inclusively priced events, Sign-up Parties provide fun, unique opportunities for Lab community members to gather. Some Sign-up Parties are designed as adults-only, and others will target specific age groups of kids.

Join Lab parent and author Frances de Pontes Peebles for an evening exploring "The Serrambi Case," her published story based on true events that was made into an award-winning short film by Australian director Emily Avila. We will screen the film, then discuss the story and analyze how it was translated into visual media. We'll also explore the facts of the actual unsolved criminal case, how Frances adapted it into fiction, and how the filmmaker took a Brazilian story and made it an Australian one. There will be popcorn and wine, and lots of lively discussion!

Observe live insects from the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum's collections! Students will learn more about the ways that these animals move, eat, and protect themselves from danger. Each student will have the opportunity to compare and contrast several different live insects and have fun getting up close and personal (or just personal enough) with these insects. Following bug exploration, students will get to be a part of the magic of the Butterfly Haven, experiencing over 40 species of exotic butterflies and watching as newly emerged butterflies and moths take flight for the very first time during the butterfly release.
