Designed to be a diverse set of inclusively priced events, Sign-up Parties provide fun, unique opportunities for Lab community members to gather. Some Sign-up Parties are designed as adults-only, and others will target specific age groups of kids.

Indian Boogie Night- Bollywood vs. Bhangra

Get in the Groove.  Learn the moves.  Bollywood or Bhangra--you don't have to choose. A professional instructor and DJ will lead a loud and rollicking dance party. Bring the whole family to Kovler Gym on the Historic Campus for dancing and yummy Indian appetizers and refreshments.

Story and a Movie

Adults only

Join Lab parent and author Frances de Pontes Peebles for an evening exploring "The Serrambi Case," her published story based on true events that was made into an award-winning short film by Australian director Emily Avila. We will screen the film, then discuss the story and analyze how it was translated into visual media. We'll also explore the facts of the actual unsolved criminal case, how Frances adapted it into fiction, and how the filmmaker took a Brazilian story and made it an Australian one. There will be popcorn and wine, and lots of lively discussion!

Winners of the Grammy for Best Children’s Album in 2012 for their album ‘Can You Canoe’, the Okee Dokee Brothers were nominated again for Best Children’s Album in 2014 and 2016. Heavily influenced by folk, old-time and bluegrass music, the music and lyrics of their ‘Adventure Albums’ encourage families to explore the outdoors and find their own adventures. Second grade students and parents are invited for a bowling party at Lucky Strike in Streeterville. While students compete in a bowling competition, parents will have a separate ping pong party.  Pizza and drinks will be served and parents get to enjoy an open bar.

Flywheel 80s and 90s Teen Movie Music Ride

Relive your glory days while getting a great workout. You know you want to wear your back up Dewey Dance outfit from last year, so while costumes aren't required, if you want to get your Flashdance on, you won't be alone. Bugs Alive and Special Butterfly Haven Tour

Friday, April 20th

1pm

Grades N3-1st grade

Observe live insects from the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum's collections! Students will learn more about the ways that these animals move, eat, and protect themselves from danger. Each student will have the opportunity to compare and contrast several different live insects and have fun getting up close and personal (or just personal enough) with these insects. Following bug exploration, students will get to be a part of the magic of the Butterfly Haven, experiencing over 40 species of exotic butterflies and watching as newly emerged butterflies and moths take flight for the very first time during the butterfly release.
